Char Dham Yatra is a pilgrimage tour that is considered sacred by Hindus. It involves visiting four holy shrines located in the Indian state of Uttarakhand: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath.
Yamunotri is located at an altitude of 3,293 meters and is dedicated to Goddess Yamuna. Gangotri, located at an altitude of 3,100 meters, is dedicated to Goddess Ganga. Kedarnath, located at an altitude of 3,583 meters, is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Badrinath, located at an altitude of 3,133 meters, is dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
The journey usually starts from the town of Haridwar, which is located at the foothills of the Himalayas. From there, pilgrims travel to Yamunotri, which is the first shrine of the Char Dham Yatra. The journey continues to Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath in that order.
The Char Dham Yatra is considered to be one of the most spiritually rewarding journeys for Hindus. It is believed that by undertaking this journey, one can attain moksha (liberation from the cycle of birth and death). The yatra usually takes around 10 to 12 days to complete, and it is advised to undertake it during the months of May to June and September to October when the weather is pleasant.
